2019: The year I failed my resolution on the 1st day

2019. Deep sigh. Of course I have some reflective things to share here, some goals to attain, some hopes for the upcoming year. But first, a ridiculous moment of 2019. Like all of you, I resolved to start the New Year off on a healthy foot! I’ve been be all chocolate, cookies, cheese, wine, vodka, burgers, pizza, tacos for like a month. So, on December 30th, I spent my life savings on a 3 Day Juice Cleanse. Get this- TO BE PICKED UP ON JANUARY 1st. No collards- and it’s a good thing because apparently there are no collards left in SC or GA, No black eyed peas or juicy steak- just juice. Like all the things- this was not well planned, it was an impulsive choice and followed by a hasty execution. I woke up this morning at 8:30 with a class 5 hangover. My husband should know by now that I can’t make my own drinks. I get my sweatpants on and wash my red lipstick off, and I head to the juice store. I pick up my fancy juices. I instagram my fancy juices. I google “how to do a ju...

The Beasley Dining Room: I'm Back and I'm Bold.

I'm still here. I know you've probably been worried about me. I wish I had a really, really good excuse for not updating you since SEPTEMBER 18TH. What the heck? Did I fall off the planet? In short, yes. Being a School Counselor, a Ph.D. student, a mother, a wife, and trying to have some sort of social life does not leave much time for blogging.  But, I make time for the important things, and by that I mean decorating my house. Duh. I wanted to give you a quick update on a project we JUST finished before Christmas. We still have 3 rooms in the works. I can't remember if I every mentioned this to you, but when we were looking for a new house in Atlanta, my nonnegotiable was a formal dining room. I mean, I grew up in Pelzer and even then I had a dining room. Unfortunately, I haven't had one since. By golly, much to Aaron's dismay and broken heartedness, I rejected a lot of houses due to the Dining Room clause. Why do I care about the dining room, you ...

Nitty Gritty Guide to Marathons

It’s taken me a hot minute to write the second half of this post, mainly because I’ve actually been living it. I’m scheduled to do my 2nd 20 miler- my last long run- before the glorious taper. If you read the last post, then you have a general overview of what to expect of long distance running. If you didn’t read the last post, this one probably isn’t going to mean much to you. If you're still reading this post, it means I didn’t scare the bejesus out of you with my first marathon post . Welcome back. Let’s just jump right in. These are the nitty-gritty details that no one really talks about when it comes to running marathons. You need to know about the shoes, the mental game, the financial obligations that I discussed in the first post- but the information in this post is not NEED to know, it’s just NICE to know. 1. Start with short distances If you're an aspiring runner, but never really got into it. It's not too late. A marathon might seem like as likely as marry...

Marathoning- It Actually Sucks for Everyone

Everyone who knows me, even a little, knows that I love running marathons. In fact, it is basically all I talk about for about 6 months out of the year. Specifically, every year from June  to November, and I only stop in November because I want to talk about Christmas. Typically, people like to talk to me about marathons. They have lots of questions about “how in the world I do that?” or sometimes “why in the world I do that?” For the next couple of weeks, I’m going to post 2 blogs featuring everything you ever wanted to know about long-distance running. This first post is a Beginners Overview. I reference 'marathons' only, but its a substitute for any long distance. The second post will be the ‘nitty-gritty, no one ever told me that guide’ to becoming a marathon runner. If you’ve ever wondered if you could run a marathon, this post is for you. If you’ve ever wondered how to run a marathon, this post is for you. If you just like to read all the nonsense I write about,...

Your Inner 10 year old called...

Lately, I haven’t really been writing. Not for myself. Not for my blog. Not for school. I’ve just kind of stopped. I don’t think I’ve had anything to say worth writing about and definitely not worth reading about. Yesterday, my bestie in this life reminded me that my “people want to hear from me.” She went so far as to say they’ve been WAITING to hear from me. I’m not sure if any of this is true, but it was enough to inspire me to pick up my pen. Not that you really needed a reminder, but life is hard. My life is hard. This week I went to Michael’s to buy two picture frames for some art I bought in MAY. There was no traffic. I parked in the second parking space. The frames were BOGO. I mean, the Universe was practically begging me to buy these frames, however, I walked around for 40 minutes, got so overwhelmed  at all of these options that I decided to just look at scrapbook stickers, balk at the price, and leave. What is this life? Why did picture frames push me over the ed...

3 Little Birds

Don't worry about a thing 'Cause every little thing gonna be all right. Singin': "Don't worry about a thing 'Cause every little thing gonna be all right! Rise up this mornin' Smiled with the risin' sun 3 little birds Pitch by my doorstep Singin' sweet songs Of melodies pure and true Sayin', This is my message to you You know what should elicit joy? Your laundry room or wherever it is you do your laundry. Laundry is not glamorous. Laundry is not fun. Laundry is not joyful. After a day spent chasing a 2 year old, it can be mindless and relaxing, but back to the point. Regardless of your thoughts on HRC, we can all agree that laundry sucks. This is precisely why you need to add a little joy to this space.  Adding joy to your laundry room is at the very end of most project lists, if it makes the list at all. Why? Because no one ever sees your laundry room. Why would you use your time and money decorating a sp...
